Multiclassing Guide
Everything you need to know about building a 3-class character in EQL.
The Basics
EverQuest Legends allows you to select up to 3 classes for a single character. All three classes' abilities, spells, skills, and passives are active simultaneously. With 16 classes, there are 560 possible combinations.
- At character creation: Pick your primary class (race-locked) and second class (free choice)
- At level 10: Your third class unlocks
- At level 11: Your primary class locks
- Classes 2 and 3 can be swapped freely in any major city
- Class switching is not allowed mid-raid
- Swapping puts the origin spell on cooldown
Effective Level
Your character's effective level is the lowest of your three class levels. This means all three classes must be leveled to progress. Since all classes start at level 1 and any class can be leveled to match, the practical effect is that you level all three together.
Armor & Weapon Proficiencies
You can wear the best armor type available from any of your three classes:
- If any class wears plate, you wear plate
- If none wear plate but one wears chain, you wear chain
- If none wear chain but one wears leather, you wear leather
- Otherwise cloth
You can use any weapon that at least one of your classes can equip.
Skill Access
You have access to all skills from all three classes. This includes:
- All spells (from all three classes' spell books)
- All combat skills (kick, bash, backstab, etc.)
- All defensive skills (parry, riposte, block, dodge)
- All trade skills
- All AAs (Passive AAs from level 1, active AAs unlock at appropriate levels)
Pet Rules
- Maximum of one active pet at any time
- All pet classes share the same pet slot
- Pets have two base classes (e.g., Beastlord pet = Warrior/Berserker)
- Pets can equip gear from their two base classes plus your three character classes
- Pet window has 4 base gear slots + 3 additional slots per pet class in your combo
Spell & Song System
- Bard songs no longer require twisting — activate once, sustain automatically
- Always meditating — you don't need to sit to regain mana. Only sit to memorize spells.
- Spells come from vendors, quests, or drops. Some autogranted up to level 10-20
- Buy and memorize spells ahead of level — they activate when you reach required level
- Spell research tradeskill has been removed
AA System
- AA pool is singular across all combos — switching classes doesn't reset AAs
- Passive AAs available from level 1 (exceptions for trap-like or useless AAs)
- Active AAs unlock at appropriate levels
- AA crit bonuses are additive — what you see is what you get
- MGB (Mass Group Buff) confirmed in game
The "Any" Slots
Two special inventory slots that can hold items outside normal slot restrictions:
- Can hold a shield (full AC value applies)
- Can hold a breastplate (stat stacking)
- Can hold a weapon (like a piercer for backstab while using a different main hand)
Class Loadout System
EQL includes a Loadout UI for managing your three classes. You can create and save loadout presets for different situations. The UI handles spell setup, stance assignment, and ability bar configuration per loadout.

⭐ David's Combo (Bard/Paladin/Enchanter)
This combo is an S-Tier hybrid support/tank/CC build. The Bard's passive songs plus Enchanter's Clarity stack for incredible mana regen. Paladin gives you plate + heals + stuns. Enchanter gives you charm + mez. Use the Class Combo Builder to see how your specific picks rank.
⭐ Christy's Combo (Cleric/Necromancer/Wizard)
This A-Tier caster trio excels at sustained damage. Cleric heals + Necro DoTs + Wizard nukes = every caster role covered. Plate armor from Cleric keeps you alive. Check the combo builder for precise scoring.
