Invocation System — Caster Stances
EQL's spellcaster stance system — active modes that alter how your spells behave. Separate from melee stances; both can be active simultaneously.
What Are Invocations?
Invocations are the caster equivalent of melee stances. They are active modes that modify the behavior, cost, and effect of your spells. Per the EQL Wiki patch notes: "Invocations are in and can be used in tandem with Melee Stances." This means you can have a melee stance (Balanced / Offensive / Defensive) and an invocation active at the same time.
There are 7 invocations confirmed in the EQL Wiki patch notes. Different classes have access to different invocations — hybrids (Paladin, Bard, Beastlord, Ranger, SK) get a subset, while pure casters (Cleric, Necromancer, Wizard, Enchanter, Magician, Druid, Shaman) may get different options.
The 7 Invocations
| Invocation | Effect | Best For | David's Combo | Christy's Combo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Recovery | 2× mana regen (out of combat bonus excluded). Spells cost 5% less mana. | Sustained grinding, long dungeon crawls | ✅ Paladin has it | ✅ All casters likely have it |
| Empowering | +25% to HP spell effects + 10% per additional non-hybrid caster class. Costs 50% more mana. | Healing-heavy fights (boosts Paladin heals, Cleric heals) | ⚠️ Only if running as caster. The +10% per non-hybrid stack matters | ✅ All 3 are non-hybrid casters = +55% to HP effects |
| Inversion | Shifts ⅔ of spell cast time into the global recovery time. Costs 10% more mana and endurance. | Spells that need to land fast (heals, mezzes, stuns) | ✅ Paladin has it | ✅ Likely available |
| Spellblade | Treats first spell-gem slot (must have reuse ≤ cast time) as a melee proc. Costs 33% of normal mana + endurance per proc. Spell remains castable. | Hybrid melee-casters who fight in melee range | ✅ Paladin has it — your primary invocation | ❌ No — pure casters don't melee |
| Overchannel | Spells get -100 resist adjust + -15 per additional non-hybrid caster class. Costs 33% more mana, 10% of mana cost from endurance. | Boss fights, high-resist targets, landing critical mez/nuke | ✅ Paladin has it. With Enchanter as non-hybrid: -115 resist | ✅ All 3 non-hybrid = -145 resist adjust. Devastating. |
| Inviolable | Spells are uninterruptible by movement, stuns, or interrupt effects. Costs 100% more mana, 50% of mana cost from endurance. | High-risk situations, being swarmed, emergency heals | ⚠️ Paladin may have it (unconfirmed for hybrids) | ✅ Critical for casters who get interrupted |
| Divine | Every spell cast with a mana cost heals the group member with lowest HP % by that mana cost amount. For each additional Wisdom class, repeats at 33% of mana cost. | Group healing. Pairs extremely well with Paladin heals + Cleric. | ✅ Paladin has it. With Bard+Enc (no WIS classes): heals for mana cost on each cast | ✅ All WIS classes stack. Cleric/Wiz/Nec — but Cleric is the only WIS class here. Still useful. |
Access by Class Type
| Invocation | Hybrids (Paladin, Bard, SK, Ranger, Beastlord) | Pure Casters (Cleric, Necro, Wiz, Enc, Mag, Dru, Shm) |
|---|---|---|
| Recovery | ✅ Confirmed on eqprogression | ✅ Expected |
| Empowering | ⚠️ May not be available (fewer HP spells) | ✅ Expected — scales with non-hybrid classes |
| Inversion | ✅ Confirmed on eqprogression | ✅ Expected |
| Spellblade | ✅ Confirmed — Paladin, Beastlord | ❌ Not intended (they don't melee) |
| Overchannel | ✅ Confirmed on eqprogression | ✅ Expected — the text literally says "per non-hybrid caster class" |
| Inviolable | ⚠️ Unconfirmed for hybrids | ✅ Likely intended for casters only |
| Divine | ✅ Confirmed — Paladin | ✅ Expected — benefits from WIS classes |
How Invocations Work
- Invocations are separate from melee stances. You can have a melee stance (Balanced/Offensive/Defensive) AND an invocation active simultaneously.
- Only one invocation can be active at a time.
- Invocations have endurance costs while active (varies by invocation).
- The Strategy skill improves stance/invocation efficiency — train it early.
- Invocations are activated via the invocation UI or
/alt act [number]macros.
David's Combo — Invocation Strategy
Classes: Bard (hybrid utility), Paladin (hybrid tank), Enchanter (pure caster).
| Situation | Melee Stance | Invocation | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| General solo / grinding | Balanced | Recovery | 2× mana regen + 5% cheaper spells. You cast stuns, heals, and songs constantly. |
| Tanking (you + pet) | Defensive | Spellblade (Strike) | 50% dmg reduction + your melee swings proc Strike. Best DPS as tank. |
| Tanking + healing pressure | Defensive | Divine | Every spell you cast heals your lowest HP group member. With Paladin heals + Enchanter spells, this adds significant passive healing. |
| Charm pet DPS mode | Offensive | Spellblade (Strike) | +100% melee damage + Spellblade procs. Pet tanks, you DPS. |
| High-resist boss / named | Defensive | Overchannel | -115 resist adjust with Enchanter. Your stuns and mezzes will land. |
| Emergency / being swarmed | Defensive | Inviolable | Uninterruptible casts. You can heal through damage. |
| Healing your Christy's combo | Balanced | Divine | Every Enchanter spell you cast also heals. Adds to Christy's Cleric's throughput. |
Spellblade Slot Recommendations
When using Spellblade as David, your top gem slot candidates:
| Spell | Class | Level | Proc Effect | Best Against |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strike (DD line) | Paladin | ~15 | Magic damage proc — best all-around DPS | Everything |
| Stun | Paladin | 1 | Stun proc — interrupts casters, generates aggro | Caster mobs |
| Instrument of Knives | Paladin | 24 | Undead DD proc — bonus vs undead | Undead zones (Unrest, Guk, Hate) |
| Tashan | Enchanter | 24 | Magic resist debuff proc — helps everyone land spells | Bosses, high-resist |
| Color Flux | Enchanter | 8 | AE stun on proc — amazing when outnumbered | Crowds, adds |
Christy's Combo — Invocation Strategy
Classes: Cleric (pure caster/WIS), Necromancer (pure caster/INT), Wizard (pure caster/INT).
| Situation | Melee Stance | Invocation | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sustained DPS / grinding | Balanced | Recovery | 2× mana regen + 5% cheaper nukes. Your three casters burn through mana fast. |
| Boss / high-resist target | Balanced | Overchannel | -145 resist adjust. Your Necro DoTs and Wizard nukes will not be resisted. |
| Healing-intensive fight | Balanced | Divine | Every spell heals the lowest HP group member. Your Necro's DoTs and Wizard's nukes will also heal David's Paladin. |
| Empowering heals | Balanced | Empowering | +55% to HP spell effects. Your Cleric heals hit for 55% more. (3 non-hybrid casters = 25% + 3×10%) |
| Emergency / being interrupted | Balanced | Inviolable | Uninterruptible. You can Evacuate or heal through damage. |
| Fast-cast burst | Balanced | Inversion | Faster casts at cost of longer GCD. Great for chain-nuking. |
⭐ Recommended Default for Each Combo
David: Defensive Stance + Spellblade (Strike) = tank + spell-proc DPS. This is your primary combat mode.
Christy: Balanced Stance + Recovery = maximum mana efficiency. Swap to Overchannel for bosses, Divine/Inviolable for emergencies, Empowering for healing phases.
Key Interactions
- Spellblade + Defensive Stance: Reduces incoming damage by 50% while your melee swings proc bonus magic damage. This is the core of David's tank-DPS hybrid playstyle.
- Divine + Cleric healing: Every Cleric heal spell also heals the lowest HP group member again. With all the WIS classes in the Christy's combo, this doubles down.
- Overchannel + Tashan: David casts Tashan (resist debuff) + Enchanter's natural bonuses + Overchannel's -115/-145 resist = spells practically cannot be resisted.
- Recovery + Bard Clarity song + Enchanter Clarity spell: These three stack for extreme mana regen. The duo will have nearly infinite mana.
